The 12th annual Venice Garden and Home Tour will take place on Saturday May 6, 2006.

The Venice Garden and Home Tour is an annual event in Venice, California that showcases unusual and delightful homes and gardens that exemplify the creative and original tastes of their owners, as well as the talents of local designers.

The tour was conceived by Venice landscape designer Jay Griffith and Venice community leaders Linda Lucks and Jan Brilliot as a fundraising event to benefit the Neighborhood Youth Association's Las Doradas Children's Center. NYA was founded in 1906 by the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and has enhanced the lives of thousands of "at risk" children. Tickets $60 in advance, $70 at the door.

"SAVE MDR COALITION" MEETING GETS BIG TURNOUT - MAY 13TH PROTEST MARCH PLANNED - Coalition to Save the Marina held a 4/20/06 meeting at the Harbor House restaurant. It was crowded with concerned county residents. The meeting was well-organized and the Harbor House 2nd floor banquet room was a great venue. A large map of the Marina was projected and existing/pending/proposed developments and their locations were mapped out and projected onto a screen. The MPNA is supporting the "Save the Marina Coalition" in their efforts to communicate the desires of Marina residents to County planners. There will be a demonstration and Protest March on Saturday, May 13, starting at 10:00AM walking from the Burton Chace Community Center down to Admiralty Way. Forming a large group and walking peacefully will bring attention to the issues, receive media coverage, and encourage others to participate in the future of this unique natural area. Marina peninsula residents can get involved by helping to make signs Saturday, May 6th 10AM (at Mother's Beach picnic tables), designing/distributing flyers, or by making a contribution to STMC. Your opportunity to help clean up and restore a part of the Ballona Wetlands has arrived!

Sierra Club is sponsoring an "EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY" stewardship work day event at the Ballona Wetlands - Saturday ***May 20*** from 10 am to noon. We ask that people arrive at 9:30 am, as parking and walking to
the work site will take a good 20-30 minutes. (see directions below.)

Please plan your arrival and walking shoes appropriately. (exercise AND restoration!)

We will be having at least quarterly and possibly bi-monthly work days at various Ballona Wetlands sites. We are starting in an area that was privately owned for decades, is a bit remote from previously
accessed sites, and has been sorely neglected ~ a place where trash from the entire watershed, from Dodger Stadium to UCLA, from Beverly Hills to Culver City, has ended up without clean-up and without attention for far too long. Non-native, invasive trees and bushes will also be removed.
